Nitrous Oxide At Our San Diego, CA Dental Office

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method to help calm your children at the dentist if they have mild to moderate anxiety. Administered through a small mask that fits over your child’s nose, it is an effective way to calm anxiety. Your son or daughter will start by breathing through their nose and not through the mouth. As the gas begins to work, your child will become calm, although he or she will still be awake and able to talk with our dentist, Dr. Allen Job.

At the end of your child’s appointment at All Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, he or she will start breathing regular oxygen again, and the effects of laughing gas will wear off! As your child gets older and becomes more comfortable during dental visits, nitrous oxide may not be as necessary.

For more serious cases of dental anxiety, we also offer IV sedation dental options.
